APPLE PRUNE DESSERT | |
2 c. (or 12 oz.) pitted prunes, halved 2 c. sliced apples 1 c. orange juice 1/4 c. packed brown sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 c. softened butter 1/2 c. white sugar 1 egg 3/4 c. flour 1 tsp. each: baking powder and grated orange peel 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 c. milk In a 1 1/4 quart shallow baking dish, layer prunes and apples; pour juice over fruit and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Cover and bake in 350 degree oven 30 minutes until apples are tender. Meanwhile, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg, flour, baking powder, orange peel and salt. Stir in milk to blend thoroughly; spread over fruit and continue to bake uncovered about 30 minutes or until top is lightly browned. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. Makes 6 to 8 servings. |
