GRANDMA MAE'S PRIZE EGG CAKE | |
1 3/4 c. plain flour 2 1/4 tsp. baking powder 1 c. plus 2 tbsp. sugar 1/2 c. butter, softened 2/3 c. milk 2 eggs Sift flour and baking powder. Cream butter and sugar. Add 2 eggs and mix well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk and mix well. Bake in a loaf pan at 350 degrees. This recipe was recorded on the back of a 1 cent U.S. postal card. Grandma's ingredients were country-style. Milk and butter from her bob-tailed cow and eggs from the chicken yard. She baked her cake in a brown paper-lined black iron skillet and served it warm. |
