TALLOW CANDLES
Melt together:

3 parts tallow
1 part beeswax

Be careful not to get it hotter than necessary to mix well. A higher proportion of beeswax will make a harder candle which will burn longer.

String candle molds with wick. These have a hole in the bottom, below which the wick is tied in a knot. The top of the wick is tied about a small stick which rests on the top of the mold and holds the wick taut. Fill the molds with the tallow mixture and set aside to cool. When entirely firm, clip the knots off the bottom of the mold and draw out the candles by the wick.

Lacking molds, the wick may be dipped repeatedly, hung from a frame to cool, and redipped until the size suits. Or various make-shift molds can be devised by resourceful people.
