ANNA'S HICKORY NUT CAKE 
2 c. sugar
2/3 c. butter
3 eggs
1/8 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. hickory nuts, plus some halves for garnish

Cream sugar and butter. Add eggs. Beat for 2 minutes. Mix dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Stir in vanilla and nuts. Bake in a 9 x 13 inch pan, or 2 layer pans in 325 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes.

FROSTING:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. packed brown sugar
1/4 c. milk or cream
2 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Melt butter in saucepan; add brown sugar and boil for 2 minutes. Add milk and bring to a boil. Remove from heat; cool to lukewarm. Add sugar and vanilla. May add 1/2 cup of chopped nuts or use halves for garnish.
