1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
2 sticks butter, softened
3/4 c. granulated sugar
3/4 c. light brown sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 c. applesauce
1 c. raisins, plumped in hot water and drained

Vanilla frosting; optional

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Beat together butter and light brown and granulated sugars with electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in flour mixture and applesauce until blended. Stir in raisins and pecans. Drop mixture by heaping measuring tablespoonfuls, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 12 minutes at 350 degrees or until golden brown. Remove from pan to wire racks to cool. Top may be frosted with vanilla frosting and topped with pecan halves.
