BUTTER CAKE 
3 c. sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs, separated
1 c. milk

FROSTING:

8 oz. whipped butter
2 boxes vanilla pudding (not instant)
2 1/2 c. milk

Blend shortening and sugar. Add vanilla. Beat well. Add egg yolks; beat. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add dry ingredients and milk alternately to original mixture. Beat egg whites. Fold in. Bake in 375 degree oven for 30 minutes.
