AUSTRIAN APPLE RAISIN TORTE 
CRUST:

1 c. softened butter
2/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour

FILLING:

1 c. sugar
2 (8 oz.) pkg. softened cream cheese
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. dark raisins

TOPPING:

1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
5 c. peeled apple slices
1/4 c. slivered almonds

Cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Blend in flour. Spread dough on bottom and 1/2 way up sides, of a 9 inch springform pan.

Filling: Combine cream cheese, sugar, egg and vanilla. Mix with mixer until smooth. Pour in pastry lined pan and sprinkle top with raisins.

Topping: Combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Toss with apples. Spoon mixture over raisins and cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle with almond slivers. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400 degrees and continue to bake for 30 minutes. Cool before removing rim of pan. Yield: 8 servings.
