BAVARIAN APPLE TORTE 
CRUST:

1/2 c. softened butter
1/3 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour

FILLING:

8 oz. softened cream cheese
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla

TOPPING:

5 - 6 lg. thinly sliced apples
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. sliced almonds

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Beat butter, 1/3 cup sugar and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla together. Add flour. Press into bottom and sides of ungreased 9 inch spring form pan (up about 1 1/2 inch on sides). Beat cream cheese and 1/4 cup sugar. Add egg and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla. Pour over crust. Combine apples, cinnamon and 1/3 cup sugar. Layer evenly over filling. Sprinkle almonds over top. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes, then reduce temperature to 400 degrees and bake 45 minutes longer. Cool and remove side of pan. Serve at room temperature or cold.
