BAVARIAN APPLE TORTE | |
1/2 c. butter, softened 1/3 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract 1 c. all-purpose flour 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened 1/4 c. sugar 1 egg 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/3 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon 4 c. peeled, sliced apples 1/4 c. sliced almonds Cream butter and 1/3 cup sugar until light and fluffy; stir in 1/4 teaspoon vanilla and blend in flour. Mixture will be slightly crumbly. Press pastry in bottom and a little up the sides of a 9 inch springform pan. Combine cream cheese and 1/4 cup sugar; blend until smooth. Add egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; mix well. Spread evenly over pastry. Combine 1/3 cup sugar, cinnamon and apples, tossing lightly. Spoon over cream cheese mixture and sprinkle with almonds. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400 degrees and bake additional 25 minutes. Remove from oven; cool about 5 minutes and loosen from rim of pan. Allow torte to cool completely before removing rim. |
