BAVARIAN APPLE TORTE 
1/2 c. butter
1/3 c. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 c. plain flour

Grease bottom and sides of 8 inch spring form pan. Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla and blend in flour. Spread on bottom and sides of pan going up 2 inches.

FILLING:

1 (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cream the cheese and sugar; add eggs and vanilla and pour into pastry crust.

TOPPING:

1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. shaved almonds, sauteed
4 c. apples (McIntosh), peeled, cored and sliced

Combine sugar and cinnamon. Toss apples in mixture. Spoon over cream cheese layer. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake in preheated 450 degree oven for 10 minutes. Reduce oven to 400 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool; remove pan and refrigerate. Freezes well.
