WHITE SAUCE FOR VEGETABLES
1/2 stick butter
1 heaping tbsp. flour
1 1/2 c. milk
Salt to taste
Dash of white pepper

Melt butter in saucepan and stir in flour to make a paste. Add 1/4 cup milk and stir (never stop stirring). Add another 1/4 cup milk and stir until it thickens.

Each time sauce thickens, add 1/4 cup milk, stirring constantly. Continue adding milk until 1 1/2 cups are used.

To make a cheesy sauce, add 4 slices American cheese, broken up. After cheese has melted, sauce is ready to pour over prepared vegetables. This recipe is good over potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussel sprouts; it is especially tasty on macaroni.
