MOM'S OLD FASHIONED FRUIT
COBBLER
 
2 cups fruit
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 stick butter
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup milk

Combine sugar and water and boil until sugar is dissolved. Melt butter in a 9 X 13 pan. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and shortening. Blend with a pastry cutter until crumbly. Gradually add up to 1/4 cup of milk until dough can be handled to form a ball. Roll out to form a rectangle. Place fruit filling in center and cover with dough to form a "jelly roll". Cut roll in slices and place in pan. Slowly pour sugar mixture on cobbler.

Bake at 350°F for 40-45 minutes.
