EASY PAN FRIED HAM STEAK WITH MASHED POTATOES | |
Ham: 1/2" Ham Steak, cut into pieces 2 tbsp. vegetable oil Mashed Potatoes: 4-6 Russet Potatoes, good sized 4-6 tbsp. stick butter Kosher Salt 1/4-1/2 cup milk 1. Heat a large cast iron skillet on medium heat for fifteen minutes. 2. Thoroughly dry your ham steak with paper towels before cutting it into good sized pieces. 3. Pour two tablespoons of oil into the preheated skillet and allow it to warm for two minutes. 4. Places your ham around the pan allowing for a little room between pieces. If it won't all fit you will have to cook in batches. 5. Cook on one side for 8 minutes. 6. Turn down the heat a little bit and flip the ham and cook for eight minutes on the other side. 7. If cooking in batches put the ham on a heated plate in a slightly warm oven. Mashed Potatoes: 1. Peel and rinse your potatoes. 2. Chop your potatoes into even pieces, or close as you can get to it. 3. Put your potatoes in a pan and fill it with cold water just until it reaches over the potatoes. Season with Kosher salt. 4. Set your potatoes on high and cook for ten minutes. Place a wooden spoon over the top of the pan to keep the potatoes from boiling over. Be sure to cook the entire ten minutes. 5. When ten minutes is up stir your potatoes and turn the heat down to medium-high and cook for fifteen minutes. When fifteen minutes is up lower the heat to under medium and drain the potatoes. 6. Put in the potatoes back into the pan and set them back on the heat. 8. Allow them to cook for 2-3 minutes to evaporate some of the moisture inside of the, stirring every once a while so they don't stick. 9. Take the potatoes off the heat and cut up your butter into the potatoes. Add half of the milk and mash the potatoes to your desired consistency. Taste and season with more salt until they are just right! Tip: High on my stove top is 10, medium is 5, Medium-High is 6. Submitted by: Anthony C. |
