BANANA CREAM PIE 
3/4 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. cornstarch
2 c. milk
3 eggs, separated
1 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sliced bananas
1 (9") baked pie shell
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
4 tbsp. sugar

Combine salt, sugar and cornstarch. Mix 1 1/2 cups milk in. Cook until thick. Beat egg yolks; add rest of milk. Add very slowly to custard mix and cook slowly 2 minutes more. Remove from fire and add vanilla and butter; cool.

Place bananas in bottom of crust and pour mixture over. Add cream of tartar to egg whites and 4 tablespoons sugar. Beat until stiff. Put on top of custard and bake until peaks are brown.
