1/2 c. shortening
2 sq. bitter chocolate
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. applesauce
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. pecans, chopped
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Melt and blend shortening and chocolate together. Cool. Beat eggs, add sugar, applesauce, vanilla, pecans and chocolate mixture. Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt together and add to mixture. Pour into a greased square pan, about 8x8 inch and bake 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
