FILLED APPLE CAKES 
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. oatmeal
3/4 c. butter
8 apples

SYRUP:

1 c. water
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Combine flour, sugar, salt and oatmeal in a large bowl. Cut into mixture 3/4 cup butter until mix is crumbly. Pat 1/2 of mixture in a 9 x 13 inch pan. Set the other 1/2 aside. Next boil the syrup ingredients until clear and thickened a little. Peel and slice about 8 apples and spread on top of crumbs. Pour the syrup over. Spread the rest of the crumb mixture over the top and lightly press down. Bake approximately 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Very good with a dab of Cool Whip.
