SOUR AND SWEET RED CABBAGE 
1 sm. or med. red cabbage
1 med. tart apple (Jonathan), unpeeled, cut up
1 med. size red potato, peeled
6 whole cloves
Vinegar & sugar to taste

Cut up cabbage. Place in saucepan with 3 pints of water. Add cut up apple, 6 whole cloves and cook on medium heat. When partially cooked, add the potato, grated. It works as a thickening as you do not pour off the juice. Add the vinegar and sugar to taste. Simmer until done.
