HOME MADE ICE CREAM 
2 1/4 c. sugar
6-8 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tbsp. vanilla
1 (13 oz.) can evaporated milk (not condensed)
Milk to make 1/2 gallon ice cream

Mix eggs and sugar with 1 quart milk. Cook over double boiler until mixture coats a spoon. Cool, then add vanilla and evaporated milk. Chill mixture in refrigerator until ready to freeze. Pour mixture into freezer container and add sufficient milk to make container 3/4 full. Freeze according to ice cream freezer's instructions.

NOTE: This freezes better if made a day in advance and left in refrigerator overnight to chill. Also, get container cold by placing in freezer several hours before filling with ice cream mixture.
