DUTCH FAMILIE CAKE 
1 c. butter
4 sq. bitter chocolate
2 c. sugar
4 eggs, beaten
2 c. applesauce
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. chopped pecans
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Melt chocolate, blend with butter. Cool. Stir in sugar, eggs, applesauce, vanilla and nuts. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Stir into chocolate mixture. Pour into 2 (8 inch) square pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.

When serving, cut into portions. Decorate by placing paper cut out design and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
