WHOLE WHEAT BREAD 
4 c. bread flour
2 c. whole wheat flour
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
1 ball shortening (about the size of a lg. egg)
1 pkg. yeast
1 c. very warm water
3 to 4 more c. warm water

Mix together flours, sugar, and salt. Add shortening and mix. Dissolve yeast in 1 cup very warm water. Mix into flour mixture along with about 3 to 4 more cups of warm water.

Leave dough in mixing bowl. Pat melted butter over top. Cover and let rise in warm place until size doubles, about an hour. Knead with additional flour and make into loaves or rolls. Let rise again until level with top of pan, about 1 1/2 hours. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes until browned. Rub butter on top of hot rolls, if desired.
