BUTTERMILK BISCUITS | |
3 c. sifted cake flour 1 tbsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 6 tbsp. cold vegetable shortening 2/3 c. shredded sharp cheddar cheese 1 c. buttermilk Preheat oven to hot 450 degrees. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt into bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture becomes like coarse meal. Add cheese and buttermilk all at once. Mix with fork, just to moisten evenly. Knead gently on floured surface for 30 seconds. Pat dough out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into 2 1/2 inch rounds with biscuit cutter. Gather scraps together and repeat. Place biscuits 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated 450 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown. |
