2 1/4 c. sifted flour
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. brown sugar

Sift all above ingredients together in a bowl. Add 3/4 cup shortening and 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk. Beat 2 minutes and add 2/3 to 3/4 cup unbeaten eggs (3 medium eggs). Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
