FRENCH ORANGE CAKE 
4 eggs
1 c. butter (2 sticks)
2 c. sugar
3 1/2 c. flour, using 1/2 c. flour to dredge fruit and nuts
1 tsp. baking soda in 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
1 pkg. dates
1 c. nuts
Grated rind from 2 oranges

Cream butter and sugar; add unbeaten eggs, milk, and flour alternately; then add rest of ingredients. Bake in greased and floured tube pan approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes at 300 degrees.

ORANGE FILLING TO BE POURED OVER CAKE:

2 c. sugar
1 c. orange juice
2 tbsp. grated rind of orange

Mix all together; then heat until sugar is dissolved. Pour over cake after it is done and before removing from pan. Let stand until filling soaks in cake.
