SWEDISH BREAD | |
1 1/2 c. boiled milk 1/2 c. Spry or Crisco 3/4 c. sugar 1 egg 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 yeast cake (or packet) 1/4 c. warm water 6 c. flour Boil 1 1/2 cups of milk. Melt 1/2 cup of Spry or Crisco into this. In a separate bowl add 3/4 cup sugar, 1 egg and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt. Stir well. Combine hot milk and Crisco (or Spry) with sugar, egg and salt. Mix well. When cool add 1 yeast cake (or packet) dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water. Add 6 cups flour. Let rise until double in bulk; then cut down and let rise again. Place dough on board, divide into three pieces and braid. Makes 3 braids. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. |
