ROYAL BARLEY WATER 
1/2 c. pearl barley
2 1/2 qts. boiling water
2 lemons
6 oranges
1/2 c. brown sugar (more or less to taste)

Put barley into large pot; add boiling water and simmer over low heat, covered, for one hour. Squeeze fruit, reserving juice. Strain barley water into large bowl. Add rind of 1 lemon and 3 oranges, add sugar and let stand until cool. Strain. Add orange and lemon juice. Refrigerate.
