FRUIT BARS 
3/4 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. brown sugar, packed firmly
1/4 c. shortening, melted
2 eggs, well beaten
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. dates or raisins
1/2 c. candied cherries or pineapple

Sift dry ingredients. Combine shortening and eggs. Stir in dry ingredients. Blend well. Mix fruit and nuts with 3 tablespoons flour, stir into first mixture. Turn into pan and bake 30 minutes or until brown. Leave in pan until cool. Makes 16 squares.
