COUNTRY CHEDDAR BREAD WITH HERBS | |
1 (16 oz.) pkg. hot roll mix 1/2 c. coarsely grated sharp Cheddar cheese 1 tbsp. dried basil leaves 1 1/2 tsp. dried tarragon 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper 1 lg. egg, lightly beaten Prepare hot roll mix according to package directions, adding cheese, basil, tarragon and pepper to dry ingredients. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface; knead 5 minutes. Shape dough into round ball, press lightly onto greased cookie sheet. Let rise, covered with kitchen towel, in warm, draft-free place for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, heat oven to 350 degrees. Brush risen loaf with beaten egg. Bake for 30 minutes, until golden and bread sounds hollow when rapped with knuckle. Cool completely on wire rack. Makes 1 round loaf. |
