1 1/4 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. plain flour
3/4 c. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 c. maraschino cherries, chopped and well drained
1 c. chopped nuts

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine flour, soda, salt and cocoa. Blend into creamed mixture. Stir in cherries and nuts. Drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheet. If desired, garnish with cherries or walnut halves.

Bake at 350°F for 10 to 12 minutes.
