CHOCOLATE LAYER CAKE 
2 c. sugar
3 c. plain flour
1 c. milk
1/2 lb. butter
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar, butter and eggs. Add milk. Sift flour and baking powder and beat well. Makes 3 layers.

FROSTING:

3 tbsp. cocoa
2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp. vanilla

Cook milk, sugar and cocoa until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Add butter and flavoring. Let cool. Beat with beater until it thickens.
