ACME DOUGHNUTS | |
2 eggs 1 c. sugar 2 tbsp. melted shortening 3 1/4 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. buttermilk or sour milk Beat eggs, add sugar and melted shortening, and beat together. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk. Dough should be soft and may be chilled for easier handling. Roll on lightly floured pastry cloth to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with floured cutter. Fry in deep fat (375 degrees) until brown, turning (without piercing) once. |
