1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. peanut butter (Skippy or Peter Pan is best)
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Cream shortening and peanut butter together. Gradually add sugar and egg. Mix flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Form into balls. Roll in sugar, place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 minutes. Remove from oven.

Place chocolate candy kiss on top of each cookie. Press firmly so that cookie cracks around the edge. Return to oven and bake until golden brown. (You may omit candy kiss and put fork crisscrosses on top instead.)
