3 c. water
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 lb. raisins
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
2 eggs
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Combine ingredients (from water through cloves) in saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil 15 minutes. Cool completely (can be refrigerated overnight). In a large bowl add above mixture to ingredients (eggs through baking soda) and mix well. Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees, checking after 35 minutes.
