BUTTER CAKE 
1 c. plus 2 tbsp. sifted cake flour
1 tsp. baking powder
5 egg yolks ( from lg. eggs)
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk (scalded and slightly cooled)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. butter (melted)

Sift together the flour and baking powder. Beat egg yolks slightly; add sugar. With electric beater at high speed, beat until ivory colored and thick. Add milk and vanilla. Gradually beat in flour mixture at low speed; make sure all flour particles are moistened. Fold in melted butter. Turn into two greased and floured 8 inch layer cake pans. Bake in moderate (350 degrees) oven 18 to 20 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Place pans on wire turn out; cool. Fill and frost racks to cool for 10 minutes; as desired.
