DATE BREAD 
1 c. cut up dates
1 c. hot water
1 tsp. baking soda

Let stand until cool. Use a 6 quart mixing bowl for the following ingredients in order given.

2 tbsp. melted butter or oil
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Beat well. Add:

2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. pecans
The date mixture

Mix to blend. Put in loaf pan. Bake at 325 degrees for about 1 hour. Or you may put the batter into three 16 ounce greased, floured tin cans. This makes a nice round slice. Bread will slide out of can to cool, may be stored in container.
