SHARK FIN SOUP
Shark fin soup is a traditional soup, but the means of obtaining shark fin products is a deplorable practice in which the shark's fins are removed while still alive and the fin-less animal is then dropped back into the ocean to die a slow death. Please help to discontinue this cruel practice by avoiding the usage of any kind of shark fin products!

This recipe is being provided only for historical value.

1 can shark fin
1 can drained bamboo shoots
Chopped scallions
Black Chinese mushrooms
1-2 c. soup broth per person
Pre-dissolved cornstarch
1 pkg. bean thread

Add one can of shredded shark fin to broth. Boil soup stock and prepare like egg drop soup. Soak black Chinese mushrooms in warm water. When softened, thinly slice the mushrooms. Add bamboo shoots.

Microwave bean threads in a cup container for 5 minutes. They are clear when done, and be "al dente". Add bean threads before serving and stir to evenly distribute the noodles. Add cornstarch dissolved in cold water; add to soup until and simmer to desired consistency.

Serve. Sprinkle the sliced mushrooms and scallions before serving.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

You are correct about the cruel practice of finning. However, if the entire shark is landed and eaten, including the fins, it is not considered to be finning.

Please cook all shark dishes responsibly. Note to buy all meats from reputable and humane providers.
