SCOTTISH CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 stick butter
1/2 c. Crisco
4 tbsp. cocoa, rounded
1 c. water
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

ICING:

1 stick butter
6 tbsp. milk
4 tbsp. cocoa, rounded
1 box powdered sugar
1 c. pecans, chopped
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix flour and sugar together in a bowl. In saucepan melt butter, Crisco, cocoa and water. Bring to a boil and pour over flour-sugar mixture. Mix well. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla. Mix well. Bake in greased 9 x 13 inch pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

While cake is hot, melt butter, milk and cocoa. Bring to a boil. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Use mixer to smooth out any lumps of powdered sugar. Add nuts and spread on cake while still hot.
