GERMAN RED CABBAGE 
1 head red cabbage
2 apples, sliced
1 sm. onion, sliced
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 c. water
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. oil
1/4 c. vinegar

Place oil in bottom of a large pan. Shred cabbage. Place half of the cabbage in pan. Place sliced apples and onions on top of cabbage. Add remaining cabbage. Add water, sugar, salt and spices on top. Cover pan and boil for 1 hour on low heat. Stir occasionally. Add vinegar after cooking. Serves 6.
