EGGLESS APPLESAUCE FRUITCAKE 
3 c. strained applesauce
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 1/2 c. all purpose flour
4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 lb. dates
1 lb. raisins
1/4 lb. each of nuts, candied cherries, pineapple & citron

Boil together for 5 minutes the applesauce, sugar and shortening. Let stand overnight. Dredge the chopped fruit and nuts with flour, soda and spices which have been sifted together. Mix all ingredients together. Fill pans about two thirds full. Bake in lined pans in slow oven, 250 to 275 degrees, until done. Makes about 2 (2 lb.) loaves.
