CRISP SWEET PICKLES 
14 lg. cucumbers
2 tbsp. salt
2 tbsp. mixed pickling spices
1 qt. apple cider vinegar
8 c. sugar

Wash cucumbers. Cover with boiling water. Let stand 24 hours. Drain. Cover with boiling water again. Repeat two more days. They will turn a peculiar green during this treatment. The fifth morning slice cucumbers about 1/4 inch thick or less. Boil vinegar, sugar, spices together for 5 minutes. Pour over slices; set aside for 24 hours. Next day drain syrup and reheat it to boiling and pour over slices again. Final day drain. Heat syrup to boiling. Add spices and heat to boiling only (do not boil them). Pack in jars and seal. Makes about 8 pints.
