HERSHEY PRIZE CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/8 c. Hershey cocoa
2 1/2 c. UNSIFTED all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. milk

Generously grease and flour 4 (9 inch) round cake pans. Cream butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla; until light and fluffy. Blend in eggs. Combine baking soda, cocoa, flour, baking powder and salt in bowl. Add alternately with milk to batter. Blend well.

Pour into greased and floured pans; bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes and remove from pans.

Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting between layers and top and outside of cake. Makes a delicious, tall cake for birthdays. Our youngest daughter, Phyllis, always NEEDED this for her birthday on December 24th.
