CHRISTMAS PINWHEELS | |
1/2 c. butter 3/4 c. sugar 2 tsp. vanilla 1 egg 1 3/4 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt Red or green food coloring (optional) Milk Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 egg. Sift dry ingredients together. Mix into creamed mixture. Divide dough in half. Add red and green food coloring until well mixed. An extra tablespoon flour may need to be added to make up the fluid from the food coloring drops. It makes a soft dough. On waxed paper, roll each half of the dough into 12x10 inch rectangle. ("Piece" dough together if necessary to make a rectangle.) Brush 1 layer with milk. Place other layer on top. Peel off waxed paper. Roll as for jelly roll. Wrap in the waxed paper. Chill 2 1/2 hours or overnight. Slice thin and bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 7 minutes. |
