2 c. white sugar
1/4 c. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. butter

Boil until brittle. Drop into cool water, when hardens, immediately. Done. Put in buttered tin to cool, about 10 minutes. When cool enough to handle, pull until white.
