KENTUCKY BLACKBERRY JAM CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sour milk
3 c. flour
1 or 2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground allspice
2 c. blackberry jam

Mix together shortening and sugar. Then add eggs, one at a time. Mix together soda and sour milk. Mix spices and flour together. Now mix all together, then add blackberry jam. Also may add chopped nuts, if you want them. Bake about 45 minutes at 350 degrees in three 9-inch round pans.

CARAMEL FROSTING:

1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar

Heat in saucepan, boil 1 minute. Then add 1/3 cup milk and 1 (1 pound) package powdered sugar. Stir or beat until smooth. Frost cake. This cake is better if set a few days before serving.
