FRESH APPLE NUT CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. milk
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. raw apples, peeled and chopped
2 tbsp. brown sugar

Cream shortening, 1 cup sugar, and brown sugar. Blend in eggs. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture with milk. Fold in apples. Pour into 9x13 inch pan. Sprinkle with nuts and brown sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.
