STEWED CHICKEN 
Select 3 1/2 to 5 pound ready to cook stewing chicken; disjoint or leave whole. Cover with hot water; add 2 teaspoons salt; cover. Cook slowly 2 hours or until tender.

For more flavor, add 1 carrot, 1 onion, 1 stalk celery, 1 whole clove, and 2 whole black peppers. Noodles or dumplings may be cooked in broth.
