SHANNON'S HOT WINE | |
1 lemon 4 cinnamon sticks 3 1/4 c. full-bodied red wine 4 whole cloves 4-8 sugar cubes Wash lemon; peel, removing as much pith as possible. Slice lemon. Use lemon slices or peel. If peel is to be used, pare away any pith. In a small saucepan, combine lemon slices or peel, cinnamon, cloves, sugar cubes and wine. Heat over low heat. The wine must not boil or it will lose its alcoholic content and its taste will be affected. If it is heated slowly, the wine will absorb the flavor and aroma of the lemon and spices. Strain hot wine into heat proof glasses. Makes 3 to 4 servings. Best on cold days. |
