APPLE BLACK WALNUT CAKE 
3 c. chopped raw apples
1 1/2 c. Crisco oil
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped black walnuts

Peel apples and chop and set aside. Pour oil into large bowl; add sugar and eggs. Beat well. Sift flour, salt, soda, baking powder; gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Add vanilla. Fold in nuts and apples.

Grease 10-inch tube pan lined with wax paper in bottom of pan. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Cool before frosting.

CARAMEL FROSTING:

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. packed light brown sugar
1/4 c. evaporated milk
2 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

In 1-quart saucepan heat together the butter and brown sugar until sugar melts, over low heat and stirring constantly. Blend in milk; cool. Gradually beat in powdered sugar until spreading consistency. Add vanilla.
