ONION-APPLE BAKE 
4 sweet onions
4 med. sized apples
8 slices bacon
1/2 c. soft bread crumbs
3/4 c. hot stock or water
1/2 tsp. salt

Peel onions and cut into 1/8 inch slices. Peel and core apples before slicing them the same way. Partially cook bacon in fry pan; remove and mince. Take out all but 2 tablespoons of the bacon fat. Toss bread crumbs in the fat and reserve.

Grease a baking dish and then arrange the onions, apples and bacon in alternate layers. Combine stock or water and salt and pour over onions and apples. Cover baking dish and bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Uncover and dot the top with the reserved bread crumbs. Bake about 15 minutes more before serving. Serves 4.
