1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
3 tbsp. milk
1 level tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
Flour to roll (just under 3 1/2 c.)

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, milk, and vanilla; beat thoroughly. Sift together dry ingredients and add gradually to creamed mixture. Chill at least 3 hours. Roll dough and cut. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Let the children make a thumbprint in each cookie; then they add a Hershey's kiss because they are so special. VARIATION: Fill indentation with jelly, peanuts, M&M'S®, etc.
