SCOTTISH MEATBALLS 
1 lb. ground lean meat (beef)
1/2 c. soft bread crumbs
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. applesauce, unsweetened
1/4 c. grated onion
3 tbsp. diced bell pepper
1/2 tsp. parsley flakes
1/4 tsp. allspice or nutmeg

Mix thoroughly and gently form into small balls (50 cent size).

Preheat frying pan on low heat and slightly brown balls turning once or so. Put a small amount of mild barbeque sauce on each ball (or use sweet and sour mixture, if you prefer). Add a very small amount of water to pan and turn heat down to simmer. Cover pan and allow to simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
